Chicago/Indianapolis/Milwaukee
Format
General
If we have < 24 entrants we will
usually be playing 22 games (14 on Saturday and 8 on Sunday) and we will have 4
teams in the Best of’s (5&7).
If we have >= 24 entrants we will
usually be playing 20 games (14 on Saturday and 6 on Sunday) and we will have 8
teams in the Best of’s (all 5’s).
We will most likely on Saturday be
playing 2-game series, using a Set Schedule, and having a Dinner Break Built-In
to the schedule.
Schedules/Playing
Groups
For Saturday’s play the initial
match-up is selected at Random and the rest of the days schedule is set. It is
expected that everyone will at least complete Saturday’s games (usually 14
games of 7 2-game series). If someone does drop on Saturday if at all possible
we will find someone to manage that team for it’s remaining games. If another
person can’t be found the remaining series against that team will be considered
BYES. It is preferred but not required that everyone return for Sunday’s games.
Sunday’s schedules (8:00 am
start time) will be determined as follows:
< 9 man playing group
You will play 3 or 4 Power Matchups
(all 2-game Series)
9/10- man playing groups
If everyone returns on Sunday you
will finish playing everyone within your division with the first 2 series. You
will then play either 1 or 2 2-game series Power Matchups.
If everyone doesn’t return you will
then play 3 or 4 2-game series Power Matchups.
Suspended Game Rule
We will use the rule with a few modifications:
1) a 20-minute grace period on Saturday and a 30-minute grace period on Sunday
2) more than 1 series per round can be suspended.
3) the Tournament Director reserves the right to appoint someone to finish a suspended game provided that team has 2 or more suspended games to complete.
4) We will have a curfew of 1AM Saturday Night/Sunday Morning. At that time if you are still playing everything is suspended until 7AM Sunday Morning.
Power Matchup Determinants
If we have less than 4 Rounds of Power
Matchups you can not play the same person more than once (including a bye team)
unless there are so many no-shows/dropouts OR you are mathematically eliminated
from advancing.
If we have 4 Rounds of Power
Matchups the last round will be 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4, 5 vs 6, etc.. if only the 1st-place
team is guaranteed of advancing. If the top 2 teams are guaranteed to advance
the last round will be 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3, 5 vs 6, etc..
They are set for the entire round.
Start as top-down for each round --
but remember you can’t play the same team twice AND the matchups MUST be set
(if possible) so you don’t play the same team twice unless both teams have been
mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
Ties – For
seeding
In a 2-team tie head-to-head then
d20
In a multi-way tie d20
Ties- For
advancing
Shootouts – within division
In the situation where we have 3
teams for an advancing spot the teams would be seeded as above and then the
shootouts would occur.
Examples:
If we have 3 teams for 1 spot the
highest roll gets the bye in Round 1 but would be on the road against the surviving
team in Round 2, the 2nd highest-roll would be Home in Round 1. The
winning team from Round 2 advances.
If we have 3 teams for 2 advancing
spots the team with the highest die-roll would be Home in Round 1, the 2nd
highest team would be Road in Round 1 and the other team would be Home in Round
2. The winners from the 2 Rounds Advance.
If we have 3 teams for 1 advancing
spot (and 1 shootout spot) we use the 3 for 1 rule and then the 2 non-advancers
shootout to see who goes into the multi-division shootout spot
Shootouts – across divisions
Teams are seeded based on record
first and then on a d20
Playoffs
Teams are seeded based on playing
divisional standings. The higher (better) seeded team always has home field. If
two teams with the same divisional seed play overall record will determine home
field. If they are still tied than a d-20 roll.
Seeding is done as follows: All 1st
place teams, then all 2nd place teams, etc.
If 2 teams qualify from 1 playing
division they can’t meet until the finals.
If 3 teams qualify from 1 playing
division the divisional winner can’t play another team until the finals and the
other two teams from the same division would not play until the semi-finals.
For example, if 8 teams qualify the division with only 2 advancing teams will
be considered Division C and the other 2 division winners will roll a d20 to
determine which is Division A and which is Division B.
If we have 4 teams and 3 divisions
the division winner with the Best record not from the 2nd-place
team’s division would play the 2nd-place team. If they are tied a
d20 would determine who plays the 2nd-place team.
Prize $
Total Prize and anticipated
breakdown will be posted no later than the return from dinner break on Saturday
night.
An approximation of the total prize
kitty will be announced before we begin the draft.
If we have a 3rd-place
bracket all division winners will have a guaranteed prize no matter where they
finish in the tournament.
Miscellaneous
If there is only 1 DSIM teams they have
a dice rolled for them and they take earliest position left (do NOT use last
digit). The DSIM team will be set for Balanced Diamonds for their ballpark
preference.
If there are more than 1 DSIM team
a 20-sided dice is rolled and the last digit will determine their draft
position for each group with a DSIM.
If there is more than 1 DSIM within
a division (basically only if we have 13 teams) the two DSIM teams would draft
four spots apart from each other.
3rd-place bracket if we
have more than 10 players.
You do not need to finish the
regular season (provided the games are meaningless) in order to still be
eligible for the 3rd-place bracket.
All byes will be reported as games
played (1-1 or 2-1 depending on Series length).
"Cross-overs" occur if we
have one or more teams sitting out. If there is an odd-number of teams sitting
out it will be randomly determined before we start which division would still get
a BYE. If we know in advance we will try and set the schedules so your
“cross-over” series is against the same draft position that you had.
With less than 2 outs and the
winning run on 3rd the outfield is ALWAYS assumed in.
3rd-place bracket
rules
All pitching resets (SP’s and RP’s)
when you drop into the 3rd-place bracket.
All teams will be seeded based on
divisional standing (of those playing in the 3rd-place bracket) and
a d20 roll.
The better (lower) seeded team
always has home field in the 3rd-place bracket.
