Don Maggini (21-13) of Napa CA defeated Hank Smith (20-13) of Torrance CA four games to two in the world series. It was Maggini’s first STAR Tournaments win - in fact, it was his first STAR Tournament. (He did enter a prehistoric tournament - in 1988!)

In one semifinal, Maggini defeated Jasper Cattin, three games to none.

In the other, Smith defeated Tom Anderson, three games to two.

Smith (15-7) and Cattin (17-7) won their respective divisions. Maggini won a playoff game from Kevin Daw to advance.
