New for 2010
Rule Changes
The way points are calculated has been changed so that it is not possible to lose points by making the play-offs. Once the play-offs begin, two points are awarded for each play-off win. See the Tournament Director’s Guide (Rule 9) for details.
The rule for shootouts has been changed so that each shootout will last at least three innings. Starters are required to pitch in innings 1 and 2. See the STAR Consolidated Rules (Section T32.0) for details.
For the situation where a position player is lifted for a pinch hitter and the manager forgets to announce his defense at the start of the next half-inning, a new rule has been written that replaces three rules. The old trio of rules covered the situations where the replacement could cover the defensive position of the person he replaced, where he couldn’t cover but there was only one way to cover the position and where he couldn’t cover but there were multiple ways to cover the position. As before, when the replacement can cover the position, it is assumed that they are doing so. However, when he can’t cover the position, he is still assumed to be playing there but with max bad defense. If the mistake is discovered before the player bats in a subsequent inning or is needed for defense, corrections can be made without penalty. See Section T31.6 of the STAR Consolidated Rules for details.
For Internet series only, the bull pen resets at the beginning of each 4-game series. See Section T10.2.
For Internet games only, the computer result is accepted even if it differs from what our rules would call for. See Section T0.17.
If you announce a player’s name during the draft, that player is on your team. Under certain situations, a double-up pick may be pulled back. See Section T0.18.
